Last Week's Lame Joke Explained

04 Aug 2008

"Though little is known about Lincoln's rumored Italian (!) ancestry (maternal lineage), fringe genealogists claim to have traced the Anana clan clear back to Palermo. True or not, it is said that the mere thought of what could have been haunted our 16th president throughout his adulthood."

See, "what could have been" haunted Lincoln because, had he been born with the (Italian sounding but totally fictitious) surname "Anana," he would have been "Abe Anana" (a banana). I told you it was a stupid joke!
