Reflections of Vanity

22 Apr 2014

She looks back forty years to when she loved
that vanity. A dark brown dresser fashioned
to an oval mirror with a pair of
outstretched arms, intricately carved in ash-brown

walnut, extending from the mirrors either
side, on which she hung many necklaces
throughout her youthful years. The jewelry seemed
to just go out of style in age and weight

sometime between her youth and when her arms
grew tired. Reflecting no beauty and cracked
veins, she longs to shrug and shed these charms
of a better age and give up the ghost.

Her antique hands no longer wear or hold
treasures of her youth. She is tired and old.
