Spring

She said you may call her when ivy leaves
Are climbing empty window frames. She said
That you will find her name in factories,
In bricks, in wooden attics, and in lead
Encasements like the pipes that run the old-
Time player pianos. You should look for her
Up chimneys in the swallow's nest, down holes
Where wells have been -- these places, you are sure
To locate only her. If you can find
Her on a railroad line, or in old rooms
With rusty generators, or in mine-
Shafts -- these places, she may perform for you:
She starts by breathing, then imagination,
Then eating, no, consuming--your attention.
