BSUWG is still a little pissed off about this whole tasering issue. While I'm not running a political blog here, I want to vent a little more before getting back to my usual blend of general quirkiness and sundry scatological humor. Besides, I've had a lot of traffic lately, and I get a little edgy if I don't periodically alienate half of my readership.

See, I'm a guy who's used to living in-between various worlds. I'm highly creative, yet also quite rational -- in other words, not specifically left- or right-brained. It actually pisses me off when people suggest that you have to be one or the other. It's untrue; I believe we're all potentially more complex than that.

Another example is my diet. At home, we eat probably the most nutritious diet available to humanity. Honestly, you wouldn't believe it. (Well, Pru, you actually might.) But then there's also my workplace and its general "all you can eat wings" ambiance. Thing is, I like eating nutritious foods. However, I also can't deny my love for those Louisiana Lickers (my particular favorite wing "flavor" over at the Quaker Steak & Lube).

Yet another example is my politics. I'm fiercely independent. Why? Because I like to approach each issue freshly, without the ideology of some "party line" to muck everything up. Consequently, I often see both sides of such arguments and, on an issue-by-issue basis, might fall either way. Other things I'm simply apathetic about. But, I have sympathies on both sides of the aisle. Socially, I'm pretty liberal. If you're gay and want to marry, why not? If you want to smoke weed legally, I say go ahead (as long as you do so responsibly). I'm also about as nonreligious as they come. Etc.

Other times, I guess I'm fairly conservative. For example, I think socialism is an awful idea, favor absolutely free-market economics, and don't cringe too much when rapists fry. And that's where I guess this whole tasering thing is. Make a simple comment about how the poor victim was acting like an asshole and people (not you, dear reader; rather those at the aforementioned web site) lecture me about my abandonment of civil liberties, my reckless course toward endorsing a police state, etc. Like I'm some sort of idiot or something.

Well, if a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is a video worth? (I suppose that would have to be calculated based on frames per second?) I'll share one with you now. I think it states my case here better than any words. My point, just to reiterate, is: Yes, some cops are power-hungry and may abuse their empowered position in our society. But, there's also a damn good reason some of these guys are a little high-strung. The dirty secret is that they have to deal with the kind of scum shown here (in the vid below) on a daily basis. I think this vid shows just how fast a simple, routine traffic stop can go south.

Yeah see when I watch videos like that, I actually think that a response MUCH stronger than tasers is needed.
